I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Conservation, University of Gothenburg. My work is part of HERILAND: Cultural Heritage and the Planning of European Landscapes, a European Union Horizon 2020 programme.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture (KRVIA), Mumbai and a master’s degree in urban studies through the Erasmus Mundus+ 4Cities programme. Previously, I have worked in architectural practice in Bangalore, and in research in Mumbai. Recently I assisted on an exhibition and book 'Critical Care: Architecture and Urbanism for a Broken Planet' at the architecture museum in Vienna.
Broadly, I am interested in how the build environment is produced and reshaped by political and historical forces. My master’s thesis focused on nation-building through architecture in postcolonial and post-socialist contexts, with specific reference to Budapest.
In my research, I study the heritage management processes in various cases of major development projects, one of which is the West Link railway line extension in Gothenburg. Broadly, the PhD investigates the role of heritage in development, and the clash between future goals and conservation needs.
