Elisabet Van Wymeersch is a PhD researcher at the research group for urban development at the University of Antwerp (Belgium). Her research is concerned with the political contestation of urban development.
From 2012 until 2014, she was a researcher at this research group, examining the influence of participatory initiatives. Before, she was a research intern at the Socio-Economic Rights Institute, an organization in Johannesburg providing professional socio-economic rights assistance to individuals, communities and social movements in South Africa. She graduated as a political scientist at the Ghent University, and holds a MA degree in Business Administration from the same university.
She is interested in research concerning the political sociology of urban development and urban governance.
