May 12, 2011: Regional Insights: Call for Papers

CALL FOR PAPERS

REGIONAL INSIGHTS ISSUE 3

REVISED DEADLINE: 16th May 2011

In 2010, the Regional Studies Association launched its Regional Insights magazine as a new publication for the Association. Regional Insights focuses on publishing short articles from early career members, and making their research accessible for all Association members. Regional Insights articles are characterised by succinctly conveying a ‘fresh idea' to the readership.

The editors are currently seeking short articles (max. 3,000 words) for its future editions. All Student and Early Career members of the Regional Studies Association are eligible to publish in Regional Insights. Contributions are welcomed from any discipline in the field of Regional Studies and with any geographical focus.

We are also seeking to commission a number of pieces relating to topical themes and regions. We also therefore seek expressions of interest to write articles on the following topics:
• Jane Jacobs - the fifty year anniversary of The Death and Life of Great American Cities
• South Africa: are regional legacies from the World Cup becoming evident?
• Regions and the crisis: tales of regional resilience
• The future for regional renewable energy with the failure of the Copenhagen talks
• Comparative regionalisation in the ‘BRICs' (Brazil, Russia, India, China)
• India: lessons from the world's largest regionalised state
• State of the art of devolution: reports from the United Kingdom, Belgium or Canada
• Future European Cohesion Policy: what next after ‘Europe 2020'?

Abstracts should be no more than one page in total (12 point single spaced, normal margins); abstracts should include:
• A title of no more than 25 words
• A summary of the ‘fresh idea' in no more than 40 words
• A short summary of 150 words setting out the main argument and contribution to the field
• A short bio (giving institution and date of PhD if applicable)

The deadline for contributions is 16th May 2011, for publication in Regional Insights 3, published in Autumn 2011 (this deadline has been revised to take into account the May week holidays).
The launch edition is available to view online for free at: tinyurl.com/RegionalInsights1

The emphasis for Regional Insights is on working with contributors to help bring their ideas to the attention of the wider audience. Authors of accepted abstracts will be appointed an editorial assistance who will work with the author through the submission process to guide the author towards a high-quality article.

To submit an abstract or for further information, contact the Managing Editor, Dr Beatrix Haselsberger, beatrix.haselsberger@tuwien.ac.at.
