PhD/Postdoctoral Research Title: Chronicles of the new dutch waterline

PhD/Postdoctoral Research Abstract::

The New Dutch Water Defence Line, an old defence line of 85 kilometres through the landscape from Muiden to the Biesbosch, built between 1815 and 1939 in order to protect Holland has lost it’s military function it once had.
Since 2000, the New Dutch Waterline is a formal national project, this means that the once hidden structures (fortifications, bastions and fields that could be set under water) should be re-used with new functions and revealed for the public.
However, the decision making process regarding the transformation of the whole defence line is very complex, the project is interdisciplinary (cultural heritage, spatial planning, watermanagment, real estate development, nature, agriculture etc.) and different public (5 provinces, 32 municipalities) and private actors are involved: how can these actors with different background (diverging goals, interests, concerns etc.) cooperate together in order to make a new plan for the whole area?
