Case Studies in Amsterdam, Paris and Milan metropolitan areas. PhD/Postdoctoral Research Title: Governing metropolitan transformations: cooperation, conflict and legitimacy in large-scale development projects. PhD/Postdoctoral Research Abstract:: How to ensure cooperation among stakeholders in large scale developments? This is the overarching question leading the research project. Large scale development projects are thorny issues. They are strategic interventions that overtake governmental, jurisdictional and political boundaries. They often regards more than one municipality; they aim at creating synergy between national, local and regional governments; they can survive just if private investors are committed in the long term and ultimately they need popular support at the local level for their implementation. The research aims at discovering the patterns of cooperation arranged in governing three large development projects: three cases will be selected in Amsterdam, Paris and Milan. Regime theory allows for a more solid definition of power and coalition building, it looks at consolidated patterns of interaction and at stable power configurations in governance. The research attempts to discover whether solid and stable governing coalitions are constructed around the projects and which are their characteristics. By focusing on financial and political institutions it is possible to explain different patterns of cooperation within the three selected city-regions. Curriculum Vita: Download |
