Research InterestsGeneral Research Interests: I work on issues related to sustainable development, urban environment management, strategic and spatial planning. PhD/Postdoctoral Research Title: Spatial Strategies towards Sustainability in Complex Geo-political Contexts: The Case of Bethlehem Area, West Bank PhD/Postdoctoral Research Abstract:: Spatial development is the face of modernization. It is the outcome of mediating socio-economic and environmental interventions in today’s cities that seek sustainable development. However, when interacted with geo-political contexts, spatial development in terms of efficient strategies becomes futile. This truism rarely finds an expression in Palestinian academic and professional research, therefore, this doctoral dissertation is an excretion of efforts to articulate this truism following a case study approach in Bethlehem City and City-region, as well. A mix between quantitative and qualitative research methodologies will invoke the course of this research. The slated output of this research promises to address interlinked knowledge gaps. In the context of complex geo-politics and an emergent statehood: how to ensure sustainability in terms of spatial development; what is the definition of sustainability in terms of spatial development; why the prevailing spatial order conditions are associated with a stance of deterioration and malfunctioning; and what discourses surround the geo-politics of urban form mutations, and what are their implications in terms of the triple bottom lines of sustainability: social, economic, and environment. It is envisaged that the findings of this research will have a far-reaching impact on the policies of the Palestinian government. Curriculum Vita: Download |
