Workshop

Events: Workshops - 2010 AESOP PhD Workshop: Spatial Justice , July 3, 2010

Introduction

The 2010 AESOP PhD WORKSHOP on Seili island in Finland 3rd - 5th of July 2010

Spatial Justice: Planning and  distributing the luxury of space...

offered 30 PhD students an intensive course to support the development of their PhD studies. The workshop brought young European and other international researchers in the planning field together to exchange ideas and knowledge. The workshop was a mixture of small intensive working groups and supporting plenary sessions with keynote lectures from the mentors. It required an active participation and presentation of research issues, theories and methodology to discuss. The environment was Seili Island located in the exciting Finnish archipelago near Turku. The positive and constructive atmoshpere created by the students certainly led to a succesful workshop and friendships for the future. We look forward to some innovative and inspiring dissertations over the coming year. The future of planning looks bright!

The papers of the students can be found in the folder full papers below. The following links were the presentations of the mentors:

Sigmund Asmervik: "Writing a thesis is hard work, but it can be easy too"

Karolina Isaksson: "Environmental Justice - Reasserting the Politics of Planning"

Jean Hillier: "The Role of Theory"  and "Papers in Planning Theory are Possible"

Inger-Lise Saglie & Raine Mäntisalo: "Private Influence Preceding Public Involvement"

Margot Huxley: "Some random reflections"
