Young Academics Elections :: 2005

(Monday, October 3, 2005, to Monday, October 10, 2005)

CALL TO YANet COORDINATION TEAM CANDIDATES 2005-2007

Dear YA Members,

We hope that you all have had a safe and relaxing summer! But now as we quickly approach the new academic year, there will be much to plan for next year’s AESOP Young Academic Network (YANet) activities. As many of you know, next year’s annual conference venue will be held in Mexico City at the World Planning Schools Congress. This will pose a unique and challenging undertaking for YANet’s Coordination Team (CT).

This past year has been crucial for establishing YANet on the Internet, a difficult mission that has been accomplished successfully. Of course, this should not go without sending a special thanks to those current members who have kindly uploaded news bulletins and shared academic papers for the wider community of our website visitors to draw on for their personal and academic endeavours. It is this participation that will ensure the continued success of the YANet and its most accessible feature, its new interactive website!

The CT usually comprises 5 individuals, but this year will see current coordinators change their roles or depart as stated in the constitutional statutes of the YANet. As a result of these changes we now seek 3 new coordinators. CT posts can be held for a maximum of two years. After the first year, coordinators must rotate to a new post within the CT to ensure the rotation of responsibilities. If less than 3 members express their interest, then all candidates become a part of the CT. Otherwise a web-based election will be held.

Therefore, we invite all those interested in taking an active role in the coordination of next year’s YANet activities to visit the Elections webpage of the YA website. We ask that you express your interests in the various activities of the YANet as well as to suggest new ideas for the network and how you wish to implement them through your participation in the CT.

What are the Coordination Team posts?

How do I express my interest in becoming a  YANet CT Coordinator?

It is really simple and interactive! Go to the AESOP Young Academics elections webpage www.aesop-youngacademics.net/elections.php and upload your profile on the ‘Candidates Enrollment’ page. That’s it! You are now a candidate for the CT. You will be able to upload and edit your profile from 15 September 2005 till midnight of 2 October 2005. Depending on the number of candidates, as explained above, there will either be an election from 3 October till 10 October 2005. Otherwise all candidates automatically will be declared as new members of the CT for 2005-2007.

-The results of the procedure will be announced to the YANet and the ExCo on 12-13 October 2005 by the AESOP Secretary General. The first meeting of the new CT with the AESOP Secretary General will be held in Groningen at the end of November. All travel expenses are covered by AESOP.

-Everyone who is a member of the AESOP YANet on 14 September 2005 is eligible to vote and become a candidate. Membership registration is ‘frozen’ from 14 September until the end of the ‘Expression of Interest’ or the Election period whichever comes later.

-The election is supervised by the AESOP Secretary General who is the only person with access to the administration module of the Elections page. Neither existing CT members nor any other YANet member has access or can in any way intervene in the election process.

-No information is stored on the voting preferences of YANet members, which ensures the privacy of member voters. Only information on whether a member has voted is stored in order to avoid double-voting.

How do I vote?

Once the voting period begins the 'Browse Candidates' menu will change to 'Browse/Vote Candidates'. You will then be able to visit the website and register your vote with the candidate of your preference.
