Jin Xue has a research focus on environmental sustainability of urban development and planning. She has strong experience from research on how spatial planning strategies for land use, transport and residential development are influenced by hegemonic discourses on sustainability. She is also interested in exploring alternative planning strategies for sustainability transition informed by degrowth debates. Xue also engages with research on second homes, spatial planning and climate change. Her research is highly inspired by the philosophy of science of critical realism and contributes to the ontological exploration of the relationship between urban growth and environmental sustainability.
