PhD Abstract

My dissertation focuses on the impacts of heat waves in senior, public housing neighborhoods in regard to energy, air quality and human health and well-being. I examine interactions among the neighborhood climate and landscaping, the building envelopes and indoor environmental conditions and the residents' behaviors and actions. I argue that strategies integrating all those components are needed for long-term heat adaptation of urban communities.
