Call for Participants. R-URBAN REGENERATION. CoPED Summer School 2015
We are happy to invite you to participate in R-URBAN REGENERATION, the CoPED Community Planning and Ecological Design Summer School 2015 that will take place in the Simeto Valley, Eastern Sicily, from the 17th until the 27th of June 2015, organized by a partnership between the University of Catania, the University of Memphis, TN and theCenter for Action-Research and Development Initiatives (CARDI) ONLUS, in partnership with the “Simeto Participatory Presidium” of the Simeto River Agreement.
The school brings together Doctoral and Master students interested in being part of an action-research, planning and design team aimed at identifying a policy framework and design guidelines for Urban Regeneration in the Simeto Valley, Sicily, Italy.
During the past 10 years the Simeto Community has undertaken, in collaboration with researchers from the University of Catania and co-funders of the Center of Action Research and Development Initiatives (CARDI) ONLUS, a participatory action-research process that has generated a community development plan for the Valley, called the “Simeto River Agreement”.
The Agreement has identified Urban Regeneration among its top priorities, questioning the dominant financial rationality while linking economic sustainability issues with socio-cultural and eco-environmental dimensions.
Participants have the opportunity to:
- Experience action-research through the constant collaboration with key local actors;
- Learn while contributing to a real process of development in one of the most disadvantaged European Regions;
- Enrich your knowledge on theory and practice of Urban Regeneration, through lectures, study sessions and a field trip to Ortigia Siracusa, one of Sicily’s most successful best practices;
- Be part of an interdisciplinary team, learning from colleagues who share your same interests but with different background and experiences.
